Building Starbase 49 Part 1

In the years that I am building and maintaining the Starbase 49 website, I have also been working on a 3D model of the starbase. Over time I switched software a few times, finally settling on Sketchup as my 3D modeller. Sketchup is a very easy to use 3D modeller, allowing me to build this model without any knowledge of 3D modelling. Downside is that Sketchup isn't really designed for complex curvy models as Starships and bases, but I try to make the model as good as possible within the confinements of the software.

Today I show you a few images from the model as it is currently in existence. I try to put as much time in the project as time allows, and in the years I'm working on it, it progressed quite nicely. The hardest part are the details. Also I sometimes decide parts already modelled are not good enough and I have to start over. I'm currently trying to put all the portholes in.
