A strange happenings.

The shuttle enters the phenomenon, sirens wail, panels explode, the shuttle loses all but battery power.

*Beep: Warning, Structural Integrity Failure. Warp core overload in 30 seconds.*

Computer is there any chance of dumping the core or repairing the core?

*Negative. Warp core overload in 25 seconds.*

As I don my space suit as quickly as possible I issue the command

Computer: Route all remaining power to the transporter, beam me to the limit of the beam.

A shower of sparkles engulfs me, I materialise not quite far enough away.

Computer: Activate EVG thrusters. Get me out of the blast radius.

Thrusters fire as the core breaches, throwing me deeper into the phenomenon.

Odd, the sensor grid is still experimental, something Commander Data tried, ive been trying to perfect it. I AM detecting some debris, not sure what it belongs too.. Let me just try my tricorder i just happen to have with me.

(to Commanding Officer) Sir, there is a time continuum disruption in space

Onboard the Limburgia, Crewman Recruit BEC hails the bridge from Engineering.

Engineering to Bridge.

*Go ahead.*

I think I may be able to help in this situation.

*What did you have in mind Crewman?*

*Starfleet vessel identity confirmed. USS Limburgia is holding just outside the anomaly.*

Can we hail them?

*Negative. Insufficient power.*

The analysis on the phenomenon. What is it exactly?

*It is an interphasic rift. Further information is speculation only.*

If I went in, what would happen, speculating?

*Theoretically it could transport entering object many lightyears away.*

I rip off my engineering toolkit and throw it towards the anomaly.

Computer keep a track on that pack, let me know what happens to it.

*Incoming shuttlecraft.*

Hail it.

*We are phasing out of the space-time continuum.*

BEC: BEC Sir.

Crewman BEC. I think I'd better get a full physical when I get back on the ship, anomolies are never good for the body.

*Goes to sit down, and falls straight through the chair.*

What the... wait a minute, I must still be tied to the rift. I'm still partially phased.

*Ensign Kynes stands up and unknowingly completely phases out of the continuum.*

So Crewman, where did you transfer from?

Crewman? Crewman?

*BEC turns around and lets out a gasp of surprise.*

BEC: Ensign? Where did yo go?

I'm right here!

BEC: Ensign? Say something.

We'll sort out the next mission when we get back to the base, who knows what crazy adventures we'll get up to there.  :D

In the meanwhile however, I would like to not be constantly phasing in and out of the space-time continuum.

*Puts helmet back on, just in case.*

Prepare for docking maneuvers. You are a qualified shuttle pilot I hope...

BEC: Of course Sir.

As the shuttle comes in for a landing, Ensign Kynes once again phases, this time more severely. He floats up off of the deck, and as the shuttle moves towards the Limburgia, the Ensign floats back, drifting slowly towards the anomoly.

Why me?.........

Kynes to Bridge:

It's no use, my pattern isn't stable enough for a transporter lock. Try using the main deflector dish to send anyon pulses phased at 15GHz at my location.

*Erm, Ensign? You're already in main engineering.*

Very funny guys, I'm off your aft.

*No Ensign, you are standing in main engineering.*

Then how am I floating in space then?

*Don't worry, we'll get Ensign Salikar working on this. It sounds like Mr Robinsons viper may come in useful soon. Mr BEC, we may need more power to the deflector dish and sensor systems. Can you start re-routing the necesary circuits?*

*Bridge to BEC. The anomoly appears to have created a duplicate of Ensign Kynes. One is in a space suit, drifting aft towards the anomoly, and one is on his way to the fusion reactor control room.*

Kynes (Ship) to bridge: I have entered the reactor control. I am about to bring all reserve reactors online. This should give us the power to hold engines at stationkeeping. Bring us around 180 mark 0, and fire the anyon pulse when the power capacity has reached 42.186

Kynes (Ship) to Kynes (Space): So erm, me. Ensign Salikar is working out what happened and how. It appears I am anchored to this continuum, maybe the transporter beam had something to do with that. We still don't know how erm, we became two, if we are the same person, or 'half and half'. Are you still phasing?

Kynes (Space): So far I am stable, but from what I can make out, everytime I have phased, there has been a large energy source / surge nearby. I recommend against the transporter and shuttles. Don't want to phase again, or indeed, create a third me. This could create a problem, as bringing me onboard the Limburgia could phase me permenantly to another dimension.

Kynes (Duplicate) to bridge: Get a security team to meet the original me. Take him to the front of the ship.

Kynes (Duplicate) to BEC: Cut all power to the forward part of the ship. Gravity, replicators, lights, everything. Put life support on minimum.

Kynes (Duplicate) to Salikar: Meet me and me at the forward lounge. Bring passive scanners. Lets see what we can do to rejoin erm, us.

Kynes (Duplicate) to bridge: Keep us at warp one, do not exceed that speed.

Kynes (Duplicate) to Kynes (Original): How are you?

Kynes (Original) to Kynes (Duplicate): I've felt better.

Kynes (Combined): I don't feel well, it feels like there are two of me inside the one body.

Doctor: Early scans were flawed, we have to seperate the two of you. If we do, one of you will die. If we don't, your both goners.

Kynes (Combined): Do it. Just out of curiosity, which of us will survive?

Doctor: I'm guessing the duplicate.

Kynes (Combined): So I won't be me then.

Doctor: Oh it will be you, just not you. Less talk, we need to get you into surgery now. The transporter procedure should be painless, and take half an hour.

A lengthy procedure later and the original Kynes is lying on the biobed.

Kynes (Dupliate): It's going to be weird, as i'm not me.

Kynes (Original): At least you get to keep going on as me.

Kynes (Duplicate): How long do you think i've, I mean, he has doc?

Doctor: I'm not sure. If he doesn't phase first, i'd guess 12 hours.

Kynes (Duplicate): Is there anything I can do to make your last hours mroe comfortable?

Kynes (Original): Well, nothing really, except for...

The original Kynes phases completely out of existance.

Kynes: This is going to take some getting used to...

Kynes to Salikar: Get a team together and meet me in the science suite. We need to see if this anomoly is expanding, and if it is any risk to nearby shipping, or indeed, us.

Kynes to Engineering: I'll be there as soon as I've finished this conference, we may be getting somewhere. The warp core is a minor problem. The ship is in no immediate danger, and we need to see if this anomoly is expanding, shrinking, a danger, etc.

In the conference room sits the department heads Lieutenent Commanders Taylor, Zoden and Talis, Lieutenents Ristau, van Veen and Lochner, and Ensigns Kynes, Robinson, Salikar and Bristo. Commander Taylor sits at the head of the table.

So everyone, as you are all aware, I am not the Ensign you all know and love. As strange as this is for me, I am actually the same person. The anomaly sitting 700 million kilometers to our aft, the interphasic rift, has properties we can only begin to understand. It has, in conjunction with a transporter beam duplicated a living being, one being stable, the other lost in the rift, phasing between dimensions. It at times has a large gravity well, at others, has the same mass as a PADD. It appears to have a detrimental effect on warp reactors, and at times, inhibits Subspace Communications.

Mr Salikar, what have the sensor sweeps told you about the rift? What were the results of the scans of myself and myself?

Mr Robinson, what new technologies have been installed on your viper? Anything we can use to approach, scan and possibly enter the rift, survive and safely return?

Mr Ristau and van Veen, do you think we could get enough power to bring the Limburgia closer to the rift without detrimental effect?

Ms Talis, while I was in the rift, the computer speculated that this rift was capable of transporting vessels hundreds of lightyears distant. Could this rift be artificially generated and perhaps be used to send an invading force through?

Mr Salikar, are there any chances of, of, rescuing the other me?
