Morals to me are a general guideline on what is right and what is wrong. It is also a way of looking at how you treat people.
The problem is of course, that some people have a different perception as to what is right or wrong. So, morals are very flexible, and of course, everyone's morals are right!.
That is a problem, Some believe in God and some don't so our Morals are different, flexible, ok a forinstance you go to a store and the checker don't give you the right change back,
For me, as an ex military man, I believe they are interesting. They adhere to basic Military principles of "we have our idea of what is right, but will help you if you need it", but also try to educate, again like military principles.
Now I know some of you are saying, aren't Military Priciples self-defence etc. Yes they are, but they also, to help others when they need it.
Now I have my own morals, which I said before are "flexible". However, I like to pride myself on being brave enough to own up to my mistakes, and helping others if they make mistakes.
And of course, the old Military adage "Do unto others, before they do it to you ;D ;)"
I think you get your morals from all around you. Your upbringing certainly will instill a certain set of values. However, once you start to interact outside home, you normally see things in a different light. It is at this point I believe that an indivdual really develops their own set of moral guidelines.
There are no "right or wrong" morals, just societies acceptance/denial of your own set.
Wow that sounded a bit heavy !!! :-?
I think if you try and live a "good" life, then you will usually "inherit" a good set of morals.
Good analigy Rockape, most everyone gets there morals from there parents and church, when you step in to the world you can get other morals, bad morals, but it depends on the people you hang with, are they good people or bad people? and hopefully your parents and church taught you right from wrong, and good people from bad people.
I became a member of the Free Church of Scotland in my youth, and was still a member until I joined the Military at the age of 20. From then, I picked up some "additions" to my list, some good, some not so good.
These days, I'm married and have a 4 year old child. So, now I have more additions to my "rule set".
However, overall, I still believe I have a good set of morals/rules that I live by. So far, they seem to have kept me in good stead.

For me, Morals arn't rules, they are IDEAS of rules, on the most basic level: What is wrong, and what is not.

1. you don't get all your change.
2. you get to much change.

ideally:
1) you complain politely
2) you give them the excess back
BUT something being morally corect isnt nesseserily waht happens, we all know that 99% of us would actually
1) shout at the cashier
2) say nothing
Its things like that that lead to books being written named stuff like 'Comman Sence: An Obituary'

what i would do
1. Calmly let her know
2. if its a little keep it, if its kinda alot give it back it's that simple

The sad thing, is that a lot of people wouldn't, and i think this is Kents point.

What is good and evil however, is a different argument

Evil is the guy with a gun going in to rob a store, Good is if he didn't do it.......

But whats he robbing for? Did you never read Robin Hood?
IF the person with the gun knows its wrong but has no choice it wouldn't bw his fault then would it?
1263 posts
If the man is consiously aware of what hes doing, then its his fault. Were on about what he is DOING being wrong morally based on purpose.

I picked up my own set of moral from many places.
I was brought up by my Grand-parents.
I became a member of the Free Church of Scotland in my youth, and was still a member until I joined the Military at the age of 20. From then, I picked up some "additions" to my list, some good, some not so good.
