I don't know the first thing about Starfleet. Could there be some sort of rules, courses, etc. that can be downloaded in PDF or something that a newbie like me can read offline to learn and go through the grades of Starfleet?

What do you mean you don't know anything about Starfleet? Do you know the basics? Don't feel bad, you came to the right place for help on that. Ask some questions and I'll give you some answers. Good luck.

Thankyou for your reply. I confess I know very little about Starfleet. If you could start right from the beginning, I would certainly appreciate it. It would be starting Basic Training for me.

Alright, you've got it. Starfleet is considered a major military power among the cultures. In the 22nd century it really was. But then as treaties grew between the cultures, the Federation began looking beyond war, and began a hard core search for those new civilizations that we hear about. They created ships that were made more for the exploritory reaserch than fighting or keeping the peace. The exploritory age really came to a close around the time of Wolf 359 when the Borg decimated Starfleet. Starfleet automatically turned back into a military power with stronger torpedoes and faster, better war ships. Although Starfleet claims that they only want to be science vessles, many new ships have come out with hardly any science capabilities at all. Starfleet is in effect the Navy of the Federation. That's a very brief history. I really don't know what else to say, so please ask questions. A good site for info would be www.startrek.com It is the official site, so they have all the goodies on the Federation and Starfleet.

very nice explanation adam, but i think he means his rank, if not keep going but i do think that you should explain the rank system that we have on the website.

Dear Roy,
Thankyou for the facts of rank. I have been busy trying to look up good sites for Starfleet information. The closest I came was to discovering the Starfleet Academy. I have yet to get a reply back from a message I sent out about enrolling. Well, all good things will happen, the impossible just takes a little longer.

I sent off a message to the Starfleet Academy and don't seem to be getting any answers. Apparently, I was accessing an out of date website for the application information. Do you know of any other possible courses or references? I am beginning to think I should write a book on how not to do things.

I came across this site recently and registered on the spot it looks interesting and like something I could really get into. My information on Starfleet is a bit better then minimal mainly because I've been watching Star Trek for as long as I can remember but I am always interested in learning any more about it.

Hey, being a newbie is hard. It wasn't that long ago for me. LOLOL. I remember what it was like. Afraid to write anything. You don't want to sound or look stupid. Plus at times you don't know what to write. LOL

Yea, when I was first here I didn't want to sound stupid or anything, which was like only 1 thing I knew about, but after being here for a while you come to realize it's not that bad. If you create a post what is a little incorrect, people on here will correct you. We don't take any offence to people sounding stupid on here. I know quite a few times I've sounded a little awkward myself. So POST POST POST!!!

Here's a thought for another day. Why don't we create a page after registering with the site to explain how things work on the site and all the rules. We would still have the Instruction page to refresh us, but I beleive the new page would be able to help out new recruits more.
