In accordance with what seems to be security-of-the-station week, i give you Damage Control. Yes, i have no life, i cant sleep, OK?
"Damage control is obviously an important factor when considering the possibilty of damage to a vessel or starbase. On a vessel Damage Control (Or DC) is done by a specialist team, On a starbase, this is complicated somewhat due to its sheer size, and as such, is not generally done. Starbases generally rely on starship backup, dealing with damage whenever it is applicable, however this technique is antiquated, and too slow, such delays could mean the difference between waking up alive next morning and not.
I propose that we divide the starbase into 5 separate areas, to combat the size of the Base, with DC teams taking orders from regional team leaders, who in turn report to the station DC specialist (Bartholemew Dickens) who will conduct all DC operations from the CIC (or OPS, if your a canon kinda guy) With 5 seperate areas (designated Yellow, red, blue, green and gray) the task should be a great deal easier.
I enclose a rough diagram, but i leave it to the DC specialist Mr Dickens, to fill out the specifics as he sees fit.

This starbase can defend itself for an amount of time, but with the right kind of Damage Control, we can hang in there that little bit longer."

If i'm not off station, at the sound of the Red Alert klaaxon, myself and my crew on the station shall jump to battlestations and man the repair stations in the section we happen to be in.

That would be nice, but I know very little about stratagy. I shall just try to contribute as much usefully to the site and hope for a nice higher engineering post. At some point in the not so distent future, I might send in a few draft guides of random engineering things to the Academy e.g. How does warp drive work, holodecks - just light projectors?, Starship/base power systems, etc.

You should speak to roy, as you don't post often. A few off-site and military ranks remain. And Zach, he doesn't need your help if he wants to switch to Strat. Ops.

Gentlemen,
Please remember that Ensign is the lowest Commissioned (Officer) Rank. Below that you have the non-commissioned ranks with Warrant (Petty) Officer being the top, and all the other crewman ranks beneath that.
With the regards to the damage control issue, if any of my Security Teams can help, then the relevant team leaders can be contacted. Or if prefered, I can act as a central contact.
Thanks
Lt (JG) Rockape

The Commodore is a regional director, if anything it would be kent... But no, Kent places special trust and confidence in the abilitys of the chief engineer, so who best to fix things would be Adams call,

Nein, I'd reccomend an Engineer. Security is about prevention, Engineerings about fixing.

I'd have to agree, however, a member of Security might be useful as an advisor on how to make things better. From a Security point of view of course

A good idea Rockape.
When I wrote this idea, i was the Assistant Chief Tactical officer. I only meant for it to be taken up by a senior officer, Now thats us. Weird how things turn out huh :P. Well, Its your call i guess. Liase with the engineering department, or delegate it to the security staff.
*looks at security roster*.

Damage control is the responsibility of the ranking officer in each of the assigned zones. I personally believe that its the responsibility of said officer to report immediatly to the Chief Engineer, listing whats broken, where, and what priority the officer reccomends for each task. In principal, eyes and ears on sights are more efficient than the engineering table. No offence Captain, I know you worked personally on the design.
What we need is a quick and easy way of determining who is the ranking officer in each section, I believe the computer is our best bet. Next, we'd need several consoles that can display the pertanent information regarding THAT section only, that the officer can access in an emergency. All officers Lt and higher would need to be trained in their use and location.
