When you reply to a post, look at the icon of the globe (hyperlink), to the right is a globe with two folders (FTP), to the right of that is a picture icon (add image). So, it's the icon, third to the right on the top row of icons, starting with the globe.
Click it and you will get an opening tage and a closing tag. Put the url of your image (make sure you upload it somewhere like Photobucket or Imageshack) inbetween those tags, then click Preview or Post at the bottom.

what about this...i want to use take one of the previously existing pictures of a crewman in a red uniform, since i am flight division, and then i want to make my own face for it...i am using a generic one as of right now , but i would like to learn how to create my own character picture as many have on this site...any information would be helpful

Only problem is making your signature 200 characters or less. I've found that it sometimes gets a bit fussy with more than 195. Only sometimes though. Thats why I linked images to notlong.com means you can get lots more text or yabb code in.

what is the text code or what ever you call it that makes my words red instead of yellow for the color?

#ff0000 tends to a nice red colour. To select the perfect one just click on the colour at the top right and it will come up with a colour code. Or you could just write in red or orange if you like the basic colour, but I like the slightly more exactness of the codes. Colour names work for most of the main colours.
Oh, and try not to post too many replies in a row (double posting), tends to make some of the officers a bit cross. There's a modify button (middle of the three at top right of the posted post), bit hard to see, but is there (Just don't click on delete post...
)

Changing link colors is next on my list of things to change to the template. It will hopefully improve the readability of the modify link.

i just saw that i was changed from flight division to command, as well as campbell who as previously flight, flazzcar who was operations, or something, is now comand and mr veldman became engineering?? did anyone else see this or is it a Aleron glitch only?

There has been a problem with crew records and departments, the Commodore left an announcement at the top of the main page. It appears to be mostly sorted just now. The Commodore has transferred to Engineering, probably to help in the upgrade of the base.
