In reality they were just props, but in the ep they were supposed to be living things because they consumed nutritional needs and reproduced. That would make them alive. And they did wreak havoc on K-7.
OH OK, I remember that!!! Is that how to spell it?

Hey, there was a deep space 9 episode and an animated series episode with tribbles. They got eaten by a tribble eating monster instead of getting picked up. so they did have an effect again
Ok, after all this,I have finally figured out what the tribble is. A PLOT ELEMENT! That means its not a actor or character on the show, but relates to the show.

I would think, since they were alive, caused problems, and were a focus of the episode they were on.

Excuse me, but the tribbles were not alive !!!!!

I have to agree on you that tribbles are not characters. But they are alive in the story, so they are not props in the story.

No, they are not props in the story, they are Tribbles, but that does not make them Characters, in the story.

I beleive prop is the wrong word for porthos. Props don't move and arn't alive. Maybe the word is "secondary actor"

so the tribble that ate the Quadrotridicale is a secondary actor? it moved to eat it

Porthos is Tucker's dog on Enterprise, consideredas a character. Also, maybe the tribble was never mentioned again because they did die.
