Is the Trek Culture dying?

This is a question I wish to pose to everyone.  Over my few years of Twenty I can only lay claim to knowing Voyager and Enterprise, plus a few of the movies in thier origionality.  During that time I have also seen our beloved Star Trek become less and less of what it once was, with fewer and fewer fans to follow it.  Yes there are still many many of us, scattered across the globe, and through us we may be able to keep the memory and teachings alive, however will there really be a next star Trek, or will this new movie be a flop, will there be a show in say...five years...or have we seen the last of Trek?

I think that just now, there will always be the die hard fans. Even if the fanbase dies down a bit soon, in five or ten years after the movie there could be a big comeback, especially after new fans have been introduced to the dvds, even when the mprpg is released soon, in a few years it could attract more fans calling for something great to be produced. Although with the amount of fan films/sites/etc. around now, and more being produced/made all the time, I don't think it will die out anytime soon.

(If this makes no sense, I have had very little sleep this week. Smile

Sir,

In a round about way, it made plenty of sense.

When the next generation started, there had been a big gap between it and the original series.  However, it revived and introduced young people to the Star Trek concept.  So, I think it may go quiet, but it will never die.

Seeing as I have a spare moment,

I do agree that Star Trek is not what It once was, Enterprise was a failure, Because of all the time line Incidences Enterprise turned off alot of older fans, About this new movie, It is not where we should be going. Star Trek should be going forwards Not backwards. I belive this next movie will be a flop as well, If we could get back into the late 2300's or even do a show on the Romulan wars, (that is done Correctly and dosen't screw the timeline up anymore than it alreay has) It would return more viewers,

But this is just a humble Lieutenants Idea,

Signing out

Lt. Zachary A. Turner.

I Don't know if Trek Culture dying and I Could be wrong and I have been in the past a lot but I grew up watching TOS and I liked it for three years, then it was over. I finished school, went in to the service, got married (that was a mistake for me), had two children, then it came back on in the mid 70s, I was in seventh heaven,(That was about 10 or more years) The movies were real good but it wasn't the same, But movies had made a wonderful effect on the yonger people of those days and the replay of TOS really made a differance that the producers could see, so the next thing you know we had TNG, then DS9, and Voyager by that time (just for myself) Star Trek was getting a bit boring then Enterprise came out and I would say (for myself) it was to much, not a whole lot of people watched it, well maybe at first but we had Star Trek for at least 15 years stright but it was different because it was set in the past. Now, there is not a lot of Star Treks on, So I watch Enterprise every Monday night on Scifi channel and I really in joy it. So what I see is they are trying to (Possably do) is rejovinate Star Trek with this upcoming movie. But we will just have to wait and see.

Just an old mans opinion.

Well in my opinion the culture is dying :'( kids of this era don't appreciate Star Trek i have a quote from what one of my friends said, "Star Trek is for losers that don't have any friends." and i know others feel the same way he does.

I work with a team of Star Wars fans, who constantly tease me about "backing the wrong franchise".  However, I've always been a trek fan from the original series onwards, and will always be a fan.  I know that things at the moment seem "quiet" but like I said earlier.  There was a huge gap between the Original Series and Next Generation.  I think the producers etc are having a "break" by doing the film, if it works they may try and make a series out of it.  If not, they will try another film with a different idea.  I believe that Star Trek will always be around in some form or other.  I also believe that as Technology catching up with some of the ideas in Star Trek, things will start to "pickup" again (I hope Wink )

I have a friend that has a PS2 and he tells me about playing for Hours, like 4 to 6 hrs just to get through one part of it, well is it any different than Star Trek, and how about Jacka ss the movie well give me a break "WHOM" are the loosers? I like Star Trek and I'm not giving it up for games, or anything else, I don't care what anyone says about it..... And if they quit making Star Trek no problem I have all the episodes and will watch them till my dieing day! Now Mr.X Box head call ME a geek....

I feel the same way, it was my dad who introduced me to the world of Star Trek when i was around 7, and i have follwed it ever since. Now 18, i have a very fond relationship with the world, and many of lifes lessons can be learned from it. The documentary film "Trekkies" furthers the idea that the world of Star Trek is one we all would love to live in, minus the wars and so on, but the fact is that even now, there are still thousands of fans that will pass down the Trek, and at Xmas on british TV, they even sometimes show the first 6 films, here and there, so i do agree that we are a shrinking minority, but we do still have a stronger bond, Star Trek.
